Allan Ginsburg brings up these really interesting questions within his poem 5 am. He talks about how life goes beyond what is right in front of us. If we take away these material things, what is left. It even goes beyond time. He brings up this question, "Where does it come from, where does it go forever?" When i read this poem i thought of The Great Gatsby and the pursuit of the American Dream. We have discussed in many of our books the thought of going after what you desire, but this poem brings up the point when you take away these material things what does matter? Along with this i thought the painting by Keith Jacobshagen gives great imagery for the poem, and also the wide open spaces in the painting reminded me of the question, Where does it go, or where does it end?"
